GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A reward worth thousands of dollars is being offered in exchange for information about the shooting death of a Grand Rapids teen.
Silent Observer is offering a reward of $3,200 to anyone with information about Amillier Penn, who was shot and killed while playing football with friends on Umatilla Street near Madison Avenue Sunday night.
Police have not released any suspect information.
“He died on Umatilla … in that yard, in broad daylight … You all seen something! You all seen something! And I need you all to talk, speak up! We need justice. Don’t let that boy just die like that,” said Amillier’s stepfather, Marcus Smith Jr. at a vigil held Monday night.
GRPD’s Major Case Team is investigating. Anyone with information should contact GRPD detectives at 616.456.3380 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345. Tips sent through Silent Observer that lead to an arrest in the case are eligible for the reward, the nonprofit said.
Amillier was not carrying a weapon, according to Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom.
“In this case, this young man was playing football with friends. He wasn’t engaged in some kind of illegal activity. He wasn’t armed with a handgun. He’s 15 years old. So, I don’t think when we discover a motive that it’s gonna be a motive that makes any sense, but we’re not to the point yet where we have it all pieced together,” Winstrom said Monday.
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Amillier’s family.
