GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers in Michigan days after a strong line of storms rolled through the state.

As of around 2:30 p.m. Monday, about 11,000 Consumers customers statewide were without service. Here are the counties with outages of more than 100 customers:

  • Allegan County: 865
  • Barry County: 610
  • Calhoun County: 2,480
  • Kalamazoo County: 3,060
  • Kent County: 452
  • Muskegon County: 193
  • Ottawa County: 130
  • Van Buren County: 178

Battle Creek Public Schools announced on social media that it would be closed on Monday due to the outage and road safety concerns.

Pennfield Schools also closed on Monday due to the storm damage and clean up in the area, a post on the school’s Facebook page said.

In Allegan County, crews are focused on damage assessment, the Allegan County Joint Information Center said in a Monday update, adding that preliminary damage assessments must be sent to the state by Tuesday. Residents who experienced damage should report it at allegancounty.org.

Those who need help should call the American Red Cross at 1.800.RED.CROSS, the county said.

Consumers says mobile command centers have been established in Battle Creek and Portage, which will help crews work faster.

Consumers always reminds people to stay away from downed power lines. Even if they look safe, they could be live. If you see one, call Consumers and 911.

If you’re using a generator, remember you should never run it indoors because that can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. You should run it outside, away from windows.

Some Spectrum Internet customers are also without service as power outages continue. Spectrum said it has a team working to repair its network and get customers back online. For updates, customers can visit the Spectrum website.
