Demi Lovato’s fiancé, Jutes, revealed he nearly broke down in tears when proposing to the singer in December 2023.
During his Thursday appearance on the “Viall Files” podcast, the Canadian musician said he proposed to Lovato — who uses she/her and they/them pronouns — by playing a song on the guitar that ended with, “Will you marry Me?”
“I definitely almost broke down crying a few times,” he said, smiling. “Basically, I had her team set up some stuff and distract her.”
Jutes, whose birth name is Jordan Lutes, said he only knew a few guitar chords before deciding to propose with a song. But he practiced several times to ensure it went as smoothly as possible.
The 33-year-old also admitted Lovato, 32, wasn’t expecting a proposal, which is why he thought it was the perfect time to do it.
“I wanted to catch her off guard,” he said. “We had mentioned wanting to be married and stuff like that.”
He proposed with an estimated 4.5-carat pear-shaped diamond worth approximately $150,000.
In August, Jutes jokingly proposed to Lovato again after she successfully made him “Marry Me Chicken.”
Last month, the “Sorry Not Sorry” songstress revealed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that she hired a wedding planner a month after the proposal.
The Disney Channel alum also confirmed she would not be performing on her big day.
“I want this to feel not anything like work,” Lovato explained.
In February, the “Cool for the Summer” hitmaker said she was “very excited” to be wedding planning and had turned to Pinterest and social media for inspiration.
Lovato and Jutes have been linked since August 2022.
Before their relationship, the pop star was engaged to actor Max Ehrich.
They called it off in September 2020.
