Knicks’ Johnnie Bryant to interview with Cavaliers for head-coaching job

The Knicks could be losing one of their top assistant coaches.

The Cavaliers have been given permission to interview associate head coach Johnnie Bryant for their vacant head-coaching position, ESPN reported.

The 38-year-old Bryant is close with Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell, who is eligible to sign an extension this offseason of up to four years and $200.4 million.

Bryant has spent four years on coach Tom Thibodeau’s staff.

Before that, he was with the Jazz, first in player development and later as an assistant coach where he helped Mitchell develop into one of the better guards in the league.

The Cavaliers also have received permission to interview Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, the former Nets’ head coach, Pelicans assistant James Borrego and Heat assistant Chris Quinn, according to ESPN.

Cleveland fired J.B. Bickerstaff after it was eliminated in the second round by the Celtics.
