After hitting turbulence at a Hamptons airport, Kygo’s Palm Tree Music Festival will go on after all — on land owned by the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton.
We exclusively reported that the hip electronic music fest — to be headlined by Swedish House Mafia — was set to go down at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach on June 22 for the fourth year.
But the Federal Aviation Administration rejected the fest’s permit, even after the music event appealed.
A source told us of the reasons for the rejection, “Most of the questions from the FAA had to do with timelines of runway closures, because it’s an active airport.” The fest was then left without a home.
A statement from Palm Tree said: “To all our eagerly anticipated attendees, we’re excited to inform you that the Palm Tree Music Festival will be held at a new location for its fourth annual event: the Shinnecock Nation in Southampton. Our partnership with the Shinnecock Nation promises significant benefits for the festival guests and for the community, and we are committed to making this year’s festival successful and memorable once again.”
A statement from the Shinnecock Nation added: “We look forward to working with Palm Tree Crew to bring together a successful and safe event.”
The nation’s website says it’s also hosting events including the 78th annual Shinnecock Indian Powwow starting Aug. 30.
The Palm Tree concert will also feature acts including Kygo, Sofi Tukker, Purple Disco Machine, Xandra, Will Sass and Flat Stanley.
Sponsors include Don Julio, Abercrombie & Fitch and Geojam, a statement said.
The nation is one of the oldest self-governed tribes in New York State. The tribe and local residents in the tony enclave have previously battled over billboards on tribal land along Route 27.
