WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Berlin Raceway hosts some pretty big races, but none bigger than the Battle at Berlin.
NASCAR pros and the best short-track racers all want the biggest cash prize the track gives out: The winner leaves $40,000 richer.
One of the biggest names at the race was Portage native Carson Hocevar, who had never won at Berlin since turning pro — until Wednesday night.
Hocevar wasn’t the only pro there. Erik Jones wanted the crown, but Hocevar had his eyes on the prize.
He won at Berlin for the first time since joining the NASCAR circuit.
“Obviously, I love this racetrack. It’s home. It’s fun to come win big races,” Hocevar said. “It’s fun to win big things in front of a lot of people, so for them to pack out stands and fireworks be going off and you see how many people are here, it’s just awesome to be here and what this facility’s turned into.”
The Portage native described the race as “really fun.”
“It’s the most pumped I’ve been for a win in a while,” he said.
